home

cabin shed shack cottage camp...?

a hermitage
tucked down deep
in the woods

penguin classics
scattered
from a milk crate fall

Benedictine almost empty
but capped tight tonight

temple dog is bored
 sick of poems
  a little hungry

she looks to the door
 ready to go
up the root gnarled path
to temple hearth warmth
 home

the tired monk

  1. Yup, I'm with the dog - time to go home. Loved this, Ollie.

  2. Old Ollie, You done it again. You made this old dog's ears perk up. Nicely done.

  4. Yup, sometimes one is a bit 'sick of poems.' Thankfully, the feeling quickly passes.

I do think all of us who comment also DO appreciate the reciprocity. I know I do. Thanks.

  5. poetry feeds us in many a ways but perhaps that dog is wise in knowing we must also find nourishment in other ways

  8. I feel like staying in a place like that... the penguin classics make this a perfect spot.

  9. I love this even more today, when it is foggy and cold out........I envy you your hermitage in the woods - and am glad you have a warm hearth to return to. Hope the young novices are doing well.

  11. Do you know the piece-- A desire for hermitage--by Samuel Barber? I sing it often and your piece put me in that space as well--beautiful Ollie!

  12. I think a wooded retreat is nice, but then one must return to the warm hearth of the home.

  14. It's nice to know somewhere is a place we can call a home....but sometimes, the home we carry like a turtle, within us...
