Dark Days / Winter's Duties

robes are layered
double thick
warding off
the north wind

once more
up the snow dusted ladder
one last untangled strand
wound through
apple tree branches

a little more light
on this darkest day
of a dark year

the tired monk

  1. Those apple tree branches are the light for me in this poem - a bright solstice to you..and let's wish for longer hours of brightness..

  5. Lovely, lighting up the darkness. Xmas lights are my favourite part of Christmas.

  6. Nice to bring light into the darkness. I like the feel of this poem. I felt the cold, the monk's fatigue and world's darkness.

    Have a Merry Christmas.

  10. I am sure it looks quite pretty but soon everyone will be displaying light on their house and gardens without the lamps and wiring.
