swear angry
fuming
kick cursing
...yeah losing it
"why you mad
yer a monk"
spinning ice cubes
around this whiskey glass
chasing a tasty IPA
"you drink?
but yer a monk"
neglected duties
procrastinated prayers
temple dog naps
"thought you were a monk?"
yes - a tired monk
Perhaps, if we looked closer, we'd see that contradictions are normal and simply human.
ReplyDelete"but yer a monk"...Yeah, contradictions well put. I totally agree with what Susan says.
ReplyDeleteSadly, too many people don't look beyond the clothes or the job, to see the person, before them. Do hope, you find yourself, a nice quiet spot to unwind and relax, Ollie.
ReplyDeleteI am tired, too, Ollie..........and i absolutely love this poem!
ReplyDeleteStunning encounter of contradiction Bro Ollie
ReplyDeleteHappy Wednesday
much love...
We do tend to send conflicting messages to the world, don't we?
ReplyDeleteFriar Tuck perhaps ?:)
ReplyDeleteYes, contradictions are a part of life, even when we don't see them.
ReplyDeleteThe world is filled with judgemental beings.. can't we focus on being human for once?
ReplyDeleteEven a monk is allowed to be human! (And after all, Jesus was.)
ReplyDeleteOh, and so was Buddha. :)
DeleteThe whole span of a life--and I can tell it's a good man's life--inside your poem... That last line is heartbreaking.
ReplyDeleteLove this weary set of contradictions that people feel you need to justify . . . To them! Great poem, Brother O.
ReplyDeleteHugs. Excellent poem.
