yer a monk

swear angry
fuming
kick cursing

...yeah losing it

"why you mad
  yer a monk"

spinning ice cubes
around this whiskey glass
chasing a tasty IPA

"you drink?
  but yer a monk"

neglected duties
procrastinated prayers
temple dog naps

"thought you were a monk?"

yes - a tired monk

  1. Perhaps, if we looked closer, we'd see that contradictions are normal and simply human.

  2. "but yer a monk"...Yeah, contradictions well put. I totally agree with what Susan says.

  3. Sadly, too many people don't look beyond the clothes or the job, to see the person, before them. Do hope, you find yourself, a nice quiet spot to unwind and relax, Ollie.

  7. Yes, contradictions are a part of life, even when we don't see them.

  8. The world is filled with judgemental beings.. can't we focus on being human for once?

  9. Even a monk is allowed to be human! (And after all, Jesus was.)

  10. The whole span of a life--and I can tell it's a good man's life--inside your poem... That last line is heartbreaking.

  11. Love this weary set of contradictions that people feel you need to justify . . . To them! Great poem, Brother O.
