3:47 city
late n' lonely
looking out over the highway
curves, n'cloverleafs
trucks cruise at 110
blowing through town
past the city and done
3:47 country
porch lights are off
quiet so quiet
then a rustle down in the ditch
raccoon shuffles
rooting up worms
scuffles under the shed
Wonderfully written comparison. I vote "country" all the way!
ReplyDeletei don't know, your vision of city appeals to me.
ReplyDeleteGrand use of contrasting images... I relate to the 3.47am activity as a sometime insomniac.
ReplyDeleteI love it, Ollie, especially the rustly little raccoon. Would you please email me at sherrym2@shaw.ca???? Thanks, kiddo.
ReplyDeleteI prefer the country,
ReplyDeleteeven though I am a city girl.
Nice Ollie.

I like the contrasts between city and country, Ollie.
ReplyDeleteOld Ollie,
ReplyDeleteI too enjoyed the images of both places.
A wonderful observation.
I'm no longer a city girl either!
Eileen
Lovely image of both city and country. Like anyone else, i prefer the country, so peaceful and natural.
ReplyDeleteI need both.Split my life between the two. A necessary complement to each other.
ReplyDeleteIf I were forced to choose...I would choose where I live in Sydney(unusual for a city with lots of bays and beaches and subtropical parks) but if I lived in any other part of Sydney I would choose the country(hands down)Nice poem Ollie!
