so called

these halls
are empty
dark

fewer novices
fewer monks

at last count: two monks
and one of them is tired

wait

there were a few more
so called monks
overseeing detention
of so called novices
caught pen-handed
writing
so called haiku

  1. Love it!! Caught pen- handed... Hopefully discovering the poet monk inspires a new generation of poet monks to follow in his not-so-tired footsteps...

  2. I love it. "two monks and one of them is tired" I hear you - tired at this end too, Ollie. Those gray winter skies - ack! Love this poem!

  3. Ha! I love how this ends!
I've ventured into haiku-territory today, myself.

  4. TM - Just noticed you've got me in your sidebar under "Kat's Poetry Trials". Everything is now at Poetikat's Invisible Keepsakes, but for my photo blog.

  5. Tired Old Monk ... this made me chuckle! I loved it because it made me think of what I have done, which is create a blog for my Haiku alone. But I have been so busy that there are no Haiku ... I have been unable to get into the frame of mind to get them out of me. So this resonated with me.
