fire stoking
in the first sun glints
coffee perking
furnace clicking on
whoosh of warmth
rolls across the floor
temple dog scurries
for cereal scraps
tired monk
pulls a comb
through damp novice curls
a most beautiful gift
from the abbess
Ahhhhhh, I can see her curls. Love "a most beautiful gift from the abbess." Yes, she is.
ReplyDeleteBrother Ollie,
ReplyDeleteA very pleasant insight to the morning routine with The Tired Monk. I particularly like the introduction of the young novice!! What a gift...

There is a serenity to be found in the rituals of morning.
ReplyDeleteWhat wonder.. somehow I can smell the first stanza, and see the closeness between the tired monk and the novice in the second.
ReplyDeleteSo much more than a mere list - such evocative words. Enjoyed this very much.
ReplyDeleteSometimes it is the simplest of gifts that give the greatest joy!
ReplyDeleteBrother Ollie,
ReplyDeleteStill reads as good as it did back at Easter time!!
Hope spring has taken hold,
Eileen
