Redemption 2

long way from winter
but hips still hurting
 from all those long
redline strides
 and hard hockey hits

today
wrapped in hot heat
I mow the lawn
ponder...
 that four goal game
 flashing fists
 locker room beers

  1. Now that is a cool juxtaposition - mowing the lawn and remembering the hockey game - only in Canada, eh?

  2. French is a colorful guy to have around. Self destructive but still a great friend perhaps a good player if he had exercised better control of himself. Wonderful take Brother Ollie!

  3. A great combo. I met a colleague at work, both our backs were hurting.. mine from moving grass with a sickle, and he from playing hockey.. I guess it means that we are both getting older.

  4. The nostalgic mood is perfectly conveyed, Ollie.

  5. Everything that matters in our lives leaves a little pain behind.. this seems.wistful but not bashful about it, and the flashback is warming.

  6. Glory days...a little different for each of us, but still there.

  7. Our glory days--how can we have them without a little pain?

  8. Wonderful imagery and combination. It's great to see that the pain from the past have not change the great mood--or the determination--of the speaker.

  10. Nice... I'm sticking with your first line as it doesn't seem so far away now.
