Monks Make It

wind cold
lake effect snow
layering in deep

the old Benedictine Monk
and the Tired Monk
sit quiet and warm
around a well
banked fire
snifters full of B&B

temple dogs slumber

some come by
see the sitting
see the drinking
raise eyebrows
shake heads in
disdain

The tired monk raises his glass
fire light through amber
winks and says:

"Monks make it."

  1. Yay for monks! I so enjoyed this poem, can see it all so clearly, the temple dogs, the arched eyebrows, the wink. Cool! Monks know how to have fun!!!!

  6. Indeed they do, and several other fine beverages as well. Nice double entendre, and I'm enjoying the picture of the two monks...meditating.

  8. Heh, the ones they snicker and shake their heads at sometimes hold the basic wisdoms they so overlook...sometimes it's just the little things in life, after all! Fun yet smart little piece. Quite nicely done.
