Monk's Music

headphones rest
tight on tonsured head
robe sleeves rolled high
deep in monk work
praying, raking, sweeping

Novice sees and ponders
What holy music fills those monk ears?
   Tibetan horns?  deep and rolling
Holy brothers chanting? those most ancient prayers
   David's Psalms?  sweet sweet praise

no

remember these are humbucker poems

I'd love to hear your guess...

  1. Well, I could say brother Cash, since I know you like him. It's a safe bet. But I'll go out on a limb and say...The Clash.

  2. I think in our Tired Monk there exists a free spirit and maybe, just maybe he is listening to Steppenwolf's Born to be Wild...

  3. Tired Monk needs to hear rock n' roll to remind him, that angels sing in many tones! ;D

  4. It has to be something groovy, as I can tell his fingers are just itching to pick up the Stratocaster. I love this, Ollie. As always.

  7. I think the monk is up to date with his music. I would guess he is working to the music of "Train."

  8. Anything from Bob Dylan to Pink Floyd would suit just fine.the things is, as long as the monk does his work aright, what he listens to matters lest to those he serves.

  9. deep in monk work... love that line. I'm going to go for George Harrison or Eric Clapton playing little old red Lucy - possibly on While my Guitar Gently Weeps.

  10. If he's working energetically, rhythmically, he's def listening to some good and hot salsa music. Yep, the monk is trying to expand his cultural awareness.

  11. My guess is metal - for a monk who seems in fine fettle today.

  12. Oh, I often wonder what people are listening to on their ipods. I'll guess, Eric Clapton, Autumn Leaves

  13. How hoppin' is this party you host? I'm thinking a mix... JayZ, Coldplay, Alicia Keys and John Mayer for the fun of it.

  14. Lots of people this could be I suppose--but the music would have to jump for me!

  15. No sure I know you well enough to hazard a guess, but I'm going for a far-out Beethoven tune! Monks can get very zoned on Ludwig's music.
