the working poet

we don't pay poets
to write poems
no hammering out
beauty
in eight hour shifts

  1. Avocation trumps vocation.

Though I feel like it's hammering at times.

  6. Dare to dream...then life would be too perfect...and we`d not have the discomfort to remind us why we really do this...ponderous little weave...I`ll wait for more :)

  8. So true but would agree with Wolfsrosebud that the best things in life are free.

Reading your words can't quite decide whether you would want to be paid or not - either way you do so write beautiful stuff.

I hope there is more to come.

  11. Money must never taint the poet's offerings, otherwise we end up with anthologies full of crap lying dusty and untouched on the shelves in libraries.

  14. Hi Ollie, I haven't visited you in ages. I see you are still writing poignant and concise poems. Nice. So much truth here.
