black socks
never white

slowly, attached
buttoned up garter belt tight

quick check:
visual - symmetry is key
and knee bending comfort

next tape
on the stripes
or big game cross-over

laces snapped tight
ready to hit the ice

  1. Ollie, I think it might be just you and I in the think tank today. And seeing as neither of us really likes socks, that could be a problem. I like your tightly written poem, like the pattern of crossed laces on black hockey skates. Haven't skated in years, but was only ever so-so at it. The last time was almost thirty years ago, when I and another cabin fevered mother grabbed our daughters skates and found a rink that was empty. We hooted and hollered, fell down, laughed and were finally ready to go home and face the kids while making dinner. Thank you for the memory, haven't thought of that in years.

  3. Ollie, I used to love skating. Your poem reminds me that often my mother and I (and other kids or kids at heart) wuld skat on New Year's Eve. I'm not a great fan of socks in summer, but in winter I'm more a fan of socks than shoes! I enjoyed your poem.
