Poems by Brother Ollie: the Tired Monk
oh the denouement of the dinner party, I sing the blues then too. brandy is a good idea.
surely the tired monk is cleaning up after mass? and what is he doing entertaining lipstick-wearing guests anyway?
Ha, I love the bandy break at the end. genius!
oh, was it that party? and was it a good one? was that little face so full and delighted? was there cake?and the readjustment of house and home and self after, with one big breath, and ya, a little break.xoerin
I enjoyed this, but until I read Isabel's comment, I swear I didn't notice the lipstick stain. Adds a whole new dimension to the story.
A brandy nightcap....hmmm...

Nothing like a fine VSOP to round off a wonderful evening. a man after my own heart! Nice.
This is wonderful! I love the visual of a monk taking left over sips from the glasses!!! ... his lips touching lipstick stains gives me goosebumps!LOVE where this carried my imagination!!!
That brandy was well earned!
The drinking monk? Don't tell me that he and Charlie Sheen are in rehab together?!!

A monk with lipstick! Thereby hangs a tale!
This, my good man ... is priceless!
The funny thing is I too used a brother in a monastery as my narrator--to a very different end! I like yours: the fatigue, the damp sleeves, the brandy break... Good magpie!
Oh do they have a nuns order with sink duty like this?? ...I am joining...bkm
I know little of monks and less of brandy, but you created a powerful scene in just a few words. Very skilled writing.
