from behind the shed
remnants of an ill built deck
carried piece by piece
down by the deep ditch
rusty hand saw
my grandfather's hammer
pocket full of nails
12 foot spans
crossbeams banged into place
ugly but solid
new path
over this weedy watercourse
I really like the idea of using old materials to make something new and very useful! Ugly is fine if it fulfills a purpose!
ReplyDeleteI can see the tired monk, so purposeful, making a way across the soggy ground. Loved it, Ollie!
ReplyDeleteI love this!
ReplyDeleteBrother Ollie,
ReplyDeleteThis is a superb bridge, which must bring a pleasing daily fulfilment.
It allows for access and going forward in many ways...
"solid" is something that's important about a bridge no matter what it's made of. All praise for the innovative mind too.
ReplyDelete"ugly but solid" and using hand labor and recycled materials! The "ill-built deck" rightly used! I'm glad you captured this in a poem.
ReplyDeleteWow. At my age I am building all kinds of bridges...to my past...to my future...to family members...to friends...to dreams I fulfilled and to dreams that will never be realized. Yeah, I'm going to take that new path. Really excellent poem.
ReplyDeleteBridges made of combustible materials haven't always been safe on my journey 😉 . Love the part about grandfather's hammer.
ReplyDeleteGreat blog
