My First Albums

buried
shoved into a dusty dark corner
battered boxes of canning jars
obscure a red milk crate

a few vinyl gems plucked:

Cosmo's Factory
Abbey Road
Through the Past Darkly

these were played
flipped
and played again

41 more wait below
each one pulled out
and played

oh that stereo summer

Note: Woodstock, The Band, Rumors, Chubby Checker, CSNY, After the Goldrush, Elvis, Arlo Guthrie, Bob Dylan...and so many more.  It was a beautiful and life changing find - I was about 7 when I starting listening to these albums.

  1. Wow, Ollie, you grew up with all the greatest tunes! I adore Abbey Road. Have you heard George Benson's The Other Side of Abbey Road? Moody and bluesy. Very cool. Vinyl is a collector item now.........who knew?

  2. Ah, The Stones and The Beatles – I heard them all through my childhood and into teenage-hood. We have a huge collection of vinyl. I love the final line!

  3. Talk about cosmic connection! Lately been digging deep into the Beatles. Right now listening to Accura Jazz Radio - Beatles as performed by jazz masters. Love Brad Mehldau's piano improvisations of Beatles, ie., Here, There, and Everywhere. Emily Lou Harris does a genius version. Check out my Blog for a small Beatles' Library. You reached something deep with this post!!! And yes to Sherry Blue Sky, George Benson does marvelous Beatles' versions. McCoy Tyner, Bill Frissell... list goes on.

  4. Nice memories! I have so many albums as well. Don't play them, but can't get rid of them. But yes, how we flipped and flipped again. Where does time go?

  6. I no longer have the record player, do you? It seems we all have almost the same classics. It was a time of seduction and alchemy in music. No wonder young ones keep discovering it.

  7. This is a lovely walk through music lane. I think it's music that keeps us alive and positive in dark times.
